Dam(n) Right! | We Stopped It

THIS. JUST. IN!! We’ve all STOPPED A DAM(N)!!!

Yesterday, two of the most surreal experiences unfolded for our beautiful Bear River at the exact same time.

First:

After nearly 6 months of continually low levels, our Source Pond rose to its normal depth and began to rush down its dry stream and rage over its waterfall into the Bear.

Finally healing from the damage caused by Pacificorp's test last year.

A test aimed at kicking off its aggressive effort to build the

Oneida Narrows Pump Storage Dam.

When our pond drained, we also learned that more than just thermal water was at stake.

As a community dependent upon the Bear River and health of the Great Salt Lake, we all learned that this proposed dam threatened to alter an entire ecosystem.

You all saddled up with us to STOP A DAM.

Together, we organized, made calls, petitioned, commented, emailed, and participated in an equally aggressive short notice-

Hail Mary pass to give voice to the Mighty Bear.

Against all odds, including the reality of Federal subsidies, corporate stonewalling, and legal gimmicks-

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN.

Second:

Yesterday, at the exact same time as our Source Pond reclaimed its natural flow, we got an email from Pacificorp.

Simply put, they are not prepared to manage the demands of the public comment outpouring at this time.

THEY ARE PAUSING THEIR PROPOSAL.

They will no longer seek to pursue this project in 2025 and may revisit it in a few years time.

So, while the war may still be well under way.

THE BEAR RIVER HAS WON THIS BATTLE.

Join us in celebrating a small but powerful victory for the environment.

They are few and far in between but know this…

WINS CAN HAPPEN and THE FIGHT IS WORTH IT!!!!

Pacificorp, thank you for hearing us.

Now, hear this-

YOU WILL NOT BREAK THE BACK OF THE BEAR.

NOT NOW, NOT IN 3 YEARS. NOT EVER.

Now, let’s take this message down river and SAVE OUR GREAT SALT LAKE!!
